The immigrants in this region have however faced major violations of their rights from time to time. They are harassed and mistreated for being immigrants. The case is even worse for the undocumented immigrants. They are normally a target of brutal law enforcers who arrest them and beat them up, sometimes causing deaths.

Lacey and Larkin have been at the heart of the fight against discrimination of immigrants they have condemned people who support such initiatives. The highlight of their fight against the oppression of the immigrants was when they exposed the former sheriff of Maricopa County in Arizona known as Joe Arpaio for taking steps that were illegal to curb immigration.

In the fight against immigration into the United States, many immigrants were arrested unlawfully and held in jails that were poorly maintained by the sheriff. He did all these actions behind closed doors until when Lacey and Larkin exposed him through the Phoenix New Times.

Lacey and Larkin told the story of the persecution of immigrants that was going on in Arizona. The attention that the story drew made Arpaio to face charges in court for racial profiling.

In 201`1. He was ordered by a judge to stop racial profiling of immigrants, but he never obeyed. He continued discriminating immigrants until he was out of office. Once he was out of office, he did not have an opportunity to stop his prosecution. He was taken to court again and found guilty of ignoring the initial court order.

He was to be sentenced in October 2017. The sentencing of Arpaio, however, did not happen as it was supposed to because, in August of that year, he received a pardon from President Trump.

Lacey and Larkin now run a foundation known as the Frontera Fund. This organization was created after they won a court case against the sheriff of Maricopa County. They protested their arrest by the sheriff and demanded that justice is done to them. The courts found the sheriff to have gone against the First Amendment and decided to reward them with a compensation of $3.75 million.
